Frequently asked questions
Which exams does it cover?
UK: Foundation, Intermediate and Full, written for the RSGB syllabus (2024, v1.6b) and the licence conditions introduced in February 2024. US: Technician (Element 2), General (Element 3) and Amateur Extra (Element 4), using the current NCVEC question pools.
How do I switch exams?
Tap the exam name at the top left of the Shack, or use Log → Change exam. Each exam keeps its own lessons, stats and mock results, so you can upgrade without losing anything.
Is this an official RSGB, Ofcom, FCC or ARRL app?
No. It is an independent study aid and isn't affiliated with any of them. UK questions and all lessons are original; US questions are the NCVEC question pools, which NCVEC releases into the public domain. Always check rsgb.org or arrl.org for exam booking and current rules.
How closely do the mock papers match the real exams?
Full mock papers use the real length and pass mark. UK papers take the same number of questions from each syllabus section as the real paper (26, 46 or 58 questions); US papers take one question from every pool group (35 or 50 questions). Short, custom and tune-up papers let you practise in shorter sessions at the same standard.
What is the Keyer?
A Morse code trainer: hear a character and type it, key it yourself with dit and dah paddles, or copy short words, at the speed you choose. The Q-code cards show the codes and abbreviations your exam's syllabus teaches, each one keyed in Morse. Morse isn't required for any of these exams; it's there because it's fun and useful on air.
Can I use a calculator in the exam?
In the UK a silent, non-programmable calculator is normally allowed; in the US, Volunteer Examiners generally allow a calculator with its memory cleared. The invigilator or VE team has the final say, so check when you book.
Do I need an internet connection or an account?
No to both. Everything works offline, there's no sign-up, and the app has no adverts or tracking.
Will I lose my progress if I change phone?
Your progress is stored only on your device, so it isn't synced between devices. It is kept in your normal iPhone or iPad backup, so restoring a backup to a new device should bring it with you.
How do I reset my progress?
Go to Log → Reset progress for this exam and confirm. This clears XP, streaks, achievements, lessons and mock history for the current exam only. It can't be undone.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later.
